Two women, who allegedly defrauded some traders of N1.5 million under the pretext of securing plots of land for them, were on Friday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The accused, both marketers are Hope Macaulay,35, who lives in Ikeja and Kehinde Odusanya, 39, a resident of Cele Village in a Lagos suburb.

The duo is facing charges of conspiracy and fraud.

According to the Police Prosecutor Clifford Ogu, the offences were committed sometime in 2017 at Iyana-Ipaja on new Ipaja Road, Lagos.

Ogu said the accused went about telling the market women that their company — HTAD Asset Management Ltd — was doing promo on lands.

“They told the women that they have plots of land to sell at Sango Ota, Ogun, for a `ridiculous’ amount.

“The accused obtained N1.5 million from four women and promised to give them the documents to the land as well as to take them to the site,” he said.

Ogu said the accused had since disappeared until one of the women they duped sighted the duo at Ile-Epo Market on Abule-Egba Road and shouted for help.

The offences contravened Sections 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr J. A. Adegun, granted the accused a bail of N200,000 each with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the case until May 30. (NAN)
