Worried by the persistent attacks on Plateau rural communities, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for proactive measures to end the killings and apprehend the attackers.
Hundreds of people have been killed by unknown that had persistently invaded Plateau rural communities.
Worst hit by the attackers are Barkin-Ladi, Bokkos, Bassa, Jos South, Riyom and Mangu Local Governments.
Eleven persons were killed in Lopandet Dwei village in Du District of Jos South Local Government on Sunday.
The Sunday attacks came when villagers in Jol, Foron and Fan in Barkin-Ladi Local Government were mourning 12 others killed last week.
The Police, in June, confirmed the death of more than 200 people in an attack on nine villages in Barkin-Ladi on June 23 and 24.
The Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on Monday confirmed that more than 10,000 displaced persons were still taking refuge in 12 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPS) camps scattered around the affected local governments.
Reacting to the killings, the Plateau chapter of the PDP, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mr John Akans, called on the state and federal governments to adopt proactive measures to end the carnage.
The statement, which was made available to newsmen in Jos on Monday, described the persistent attacks as “unfortunate”, and challenged government to take stringent measures to protect lives and properties.
“The PDP is saddened by this ugly trend; things get worse every day, particularly in the northern and central senatorial zones. We cannot continue like this,” the statement said.
While expressing sympathy with the families of those killed, the party reminded those in government of their primary role of providing security, and urged those in authority to take that task seriously so as to win the followers’ confidence. (NAN)
