The National Youth Service Corps has stated its commitment to the provision of enabling work environment and deployment of ICT infrastructure for optimal productivity.

It also said the Scheme would not tolerate unethical practices that can compromise its operations or tarnish its image.

NYSC Director-General, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim stated this in his address at the Training Workshop for Heads of Corps Discipline and Reward held in Abuja, with the theme; “Enhancing the roles of Corps Discipline and Reward on the NYSC Integrated Platform”.

Ibrahim said the workshop was designed to impart to the participants the modern trends in the world of Information Technology, and also equip them better for their responsibilities as regards the operations of the NYSC Integrated platform.

“Without doubt, the introduction of ICT in the NYSC has resulted in better work efficiency, improved processes and productivity, as well as effective service delivery.

In sustaining these gains therefore, the NYSC Management is determined to continuously equip our officers with relevant skills and providing the enabling environment to ensure full participation in the digitalization process”, the DG added

The NYSC boss stated further that Management is making arrangements to make it easy for absconded Corps Members to make online refund of allowances earlier collected, without embarking on journey to their initial States of deployment.

He listed the benefits of the new NYSC remobilization module to include; proper tracking of all absconded cases, prompt availability of accurate details of refunds of allowances earlier collected by remobilized Corps Members, seamless and harmonious processing of all activities relating to absconded/remobilized cases at the State Seçretariats, among others.

The Director-General added that Management would continue to ensure that Corps Members have stress-free service year, while he urged the workshop participants to avail themselves of the new technological trends, especially in the area of data integrity and security.

“You are to ensure discipline of the Corps Members while applying sanctions where necessary.

It is also expected that you must show leadership by example in all your dealings with the Corps Members”, he said.

The Director, Information, Communication and Technology, Mrs Christy Uba added that the Scheme would continue to leverage on its achievements in ICT solutions and would achieve more.

She said the introduction of NYSC Integrated System in the NYSC operations over seven years ago has greatly unified, simplified and ensured effective digitization of operations of critical NYSC Departments, State Secretariat, Zonal Offices and Local Government Areas as it affects Corps Members’ activities throughout the service year.

“Activities such as mobilization, deployment, Corps monitoring, relocation, pre-camp clearance of foreign-trained graduates, printing of Certificates of National Service, remobilization, among others, which take place on the NIS platform have engendered efficiency and transparency in our operations”, Uba said.
