A 38-year-old man, Omoniyi Lawal, charged with forgery at a Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, was on Tuesday granted bail by the court in the sum of N2 million.

The Judge, Malam Mohammed Marafa, also ordered Lawal to produce one surety in like sum.

Marafa directed that the surety must be a public servant and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He added that the surety should produce his last promotion letter, means of identification, a copy of his utility bill and that his address should be verified by the prosecutor.

The judge adjourned the case until April 16.

‎Lawal, who resides at Dutse, Abuja, had pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of using forged customs document and cheating.

The Prosecutor, Mr Babajide Olanipekun, had told the court that the defendant deceived one Suleiman Fatai of Kubwa, Abuja, by presenting forged Customs papers of a Toyota Corolla car to him in July, 2017.

‎He added that the defendant deceived Fatai into paying N2 million to him for the car which did not have genuine Customs papers.

Olanipekun told the court that the offence contravened sections 287 and 322 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
