Septuagenarian docked for alleged damage to property in Lagos

The police have brought a 72-year-old man, Kadiri Salawu, before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, on charges of damage to a building.

Salawu is standing trial before the Magistrate, Mr Ademola Adesanya, on a three-count charge of conspiracy, willful damage to property, and threat to life

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge

The prosecutor, Dr Simeon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Feb. 15, at Tedi Waterside area of Abule Oshun in Ojo

.

He alleged that the defendant hired  seven thugs, who were armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, to chase out the complainant, Mr Jonathan Chibuzor,  while working on his building.

According to him, the armed thugs also pulled down one side of the complainant’s building.

He added also alleged that one Mr Najeem Waheed was chased out along with the complainant from by the thugs from the building.

The alleged offences contravene the provisions of Sections 56, 351, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, who granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, adjourned the case until April 22, for mention. (NAN)
