The Police Command in Niger has arrested two persons in connection with the alleged killing of two people in Suleja and Magama Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mohammadu Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Minna, the state capital.
Abubakar alleged that one of the suspects murdered his victim and buried him in a shallow grave behind his house in Suleja.
He said that on Jan. 16, 2019, one Abdullahi Liman of APC quarters, Suleja, was reported missing by his family.
He said that during an investigation, a team of police detectives from ‘B’ Division, Suleja, arrested the prime suspect at APC Quarters, Suleja.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to have robbed the victim of a set of executive cushion, two LG plasma TV sets, three mattresses, three pairs of shoes and two travelling bags.”
Abubakar further said that the corpse was exhumed behind the suspect’s house in Suleja for autopsy.
The command’s spokesman also said that police detectives attached to Magama Division found a lifeless body lying close to Salka graveyard in Magama LGA.
He said that policemen from Nasko Division were drafted to the graveyard, where they recovered the corpse on Jan. 19.
Abubakar said that the corpse was later identified as Yusha’u Usman of Salka Village in Magama LGA by his father, Usman Bawa of the same address.
He said that the corpse was later deposited at the Nasko General Hospital for autopsy.
He said that investigation into the case led to the arrest of the principal suspect.
“The suspect perfected his evil plan by inviting the deceased on Jan. 9 to his house, robbed him of N370,000, two Tecno phones and murdered him in cold blood.”
He alleged that the suspect used a machete to inflict fatal cuts all over the body of the deceased.
He said that after butchering his victim to death, the suspect took the corpse in his motorcycle to Salka graveyard and dumped it there.
He said that the two cases had been charged to court.
Abubakar appealed to members of the public to assist the command with useful information to enable it to effectively combat crime and criminality in the state. (NAN)
