Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State on Tuesday visited Ikenne, the country home of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo in Ogun State, to console the family, urging them to take heart over the death of the scion of the family, Chief Oluwole Awolowo.
Uduaghan told the family: “He (Wole) was an elder brother.
“I remember him very well because of two or three occasions, I had private discussions with him and he was concerned with the unity of Nigeria.
“Uncle Wole was also concerned about the development and progress of Nigeria and used the opportunity of being a newspaper proprietor to propagate this.
“Aside from this, we knew who his father was.
“Somebody who gave us, especially me, the opportunity of going to school.
“I grew up in a community where there was no light, no water and other amenities.
“But there was a school and a I had the opportunity to have attended the school, free of charge.”
Uduaghan, who stressed the importance of education, further stated: “The truth about education is that if you give somebody education, then you have given that person life and he gave most of us education, so he gave us life.”
