The President, UNESCO Read and Earn Federation (UNESCO REF), Abdulsalami Ladigbolu has commended the President of Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), Dr Elizabeth Egbetokun on agricultural training of women.
Ladigbolu spoke during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday.
According to him, as part of activities to celebrate the International Women’s Day (IWD), POWA in collaboration with UNESCO REF is enhancing the economical value of Nigerian women.
Ladigbolu said that the organisations facilitated the training of all police Command wives, AIG’s and DIG’s wives across the federation on Hydroponic Agriculture programme in the United States to celebrate the 2024 IWD.
“This is believed to be aligned with the cardinal policy of President Tinubu’s administration to create sufficient food for the nation.
“This is also to create wealth and generate employment opportunities through value addition to the agricultural sector towards actualising the food and nutrition security in Nigeria.
“This is a leap to complement President Bola Tinubu on his ambition towards establishing agricultural hubs across Nigeria according to his inaugural speech,” he said.
Ladigbolu added that the POWA state chairpersons undergoing the training would create a formidable and permanent structure to attain the president’s goals and also play a significant role to achieve the United Nations Goal 2 before or by 2030.
He said that it would create an impetus needed towards promoting the indigenous farming systems that produce the harnessed food resources for greater productivity through incentives and linkages.
Ladigbolu said that by so doing, the cottage and industrial level users would stimulate development of the value chain and subsequently grow the local industries. (NAN)
