Fatai Atanda, a member of the Technical Committee of Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF), says four clubs will represent the country at the 2018 African Cup for Club Championships (ACCC).
Atanda listed the four clubs as Niger Flickers and Police Machine for the male competition and Yobe Desert Queens and Kada Queens for the female competition.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria ((NAN) in Abuja on Thursday that the clubs were the best in the Nigerian Hockey League.
“Their performance was part of the criteria for their qualification.
“So, we are sending our best in both the male and female categories and we hope to do better, especially in the female category.
“At the last edition of the competition, Kada Queens came third with a very impressive outing. But we expect to do better this time,”Atanda said.
The technical committee member expressed optimism in the four clubs to win at the championships.
He said it was time for Nigerian clubs to take the lead in the continental championships.
Atanda however said the four clubs, which are already in camp preparing for the competition, could rewrite Nigeria’s record in the championships for better.
NAN reports that the championships will hold between Jan. 20 and Jan. 28 in Accra, Ghana. (NAN)
