Gov.Rauf Aregbesola of Osun has urged Muslims to continue to promote peaceful co-existence as they join their counterparts worldwide to celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir.
Aregbesola, in a Sallah message by his media aide, Sola Fasure, on Monday in Osogbo, urged Muslims to also continue to uphold their obedience to Allah in the spirit of forgiveness and love for one another.
Aregbesola described Islam as a religion that upholds the spirit of love, peace , charity and preach harmonious relationship with other religions.
The governor advised the faithful to imbibe the spirit of sacrifice, which Prophet Ibrahim and his son, Ismaeel exemplified.
The statement read in part: “Let me congratulate all Muslim on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el- Kabir Festival.
“I want you to use the occasion of the festival to demonstrate that the world is united by our common humanity.
“You have demonstrated that you are patriotic Nigerians with your peaceful conduct, obedience to the laws of the land and invaluable contribution to development of our country.
“You should continue to pray fervently for those things that would promote unity of the country, and pray against things that threaten the existence of Nigeria.
“You should also pray for the leadership of the nation, asking God to grant them all that they require to work for the progress of the citizenry”.
The governor, however, commended the Muslim community in the state for supporting his administration and for being good citizens.
He also enjoined them to pray for the peaceful conduct of Sept. 22, governorship election in the state.
“On behalf of the government and the entire cabinet, I wish you all a merry celebration,” Aregbesola said. (NAN)
