Suspected Boko Haram gunmen in yet another daring raid attacked a community in the south of Borno state, during which they killed the monarch of Garubula village in Biu local Government area.
The District Head Alhaji Ibrahim Dawi as well as 11 others were killed during the attack Wednesday.
“It was indeed a sad day for us to wake up today and find that our dear District Head was killed after that yesterday’s nocturnal attack on us by gunmen dressed like soldiers but suspected to be Boko Haram “Idrisa Garubula, revealed in a telephone chat with reporters.
According to reports , the monarch was shot in the head and died on the way as he was being rushed to the General Hospital in Biu.Also killed was some of his bodyguards
The mourning villagers in the farming community said the attack was possible because of lack of security personnel in the area.
Garubula pleaded that “Federal government should do something urgently before the terrorists took over the area, the terrorists have succeeded in sending away the people of Damboa and other communities of Madafuma, Mandaragirau in Biu Council area, and if something is not done urgently, they would also sack our communities, which is not good for the nation more especially during the rainy season when people are going to their farms”.
The Borno state Police Public Relations Officer, Gideon Jubrin, confirmed the police got a report that only the District Head was killed .
“We are aware of the unfortunate incident which involved the death of the local monarch there. But for now we are not aware of the eleven other casualties”,he said.
