In a show of solidarity following the recent devastating floods in Maiduguri, Ambassador Emmanuel Obi Okafor mni, the President of the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI), visited the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji (Dr) Abubakar Ibn Umar Garba El-Kanemi CFR FNSE, at his palace on Monday.

The floods, which have tragically claimed numerous lives and displaced over two million people, prompted Okafor to offer his condolences and support to the affected communities. During the visit, he expressed his deep sorrow over the loss, stating, “We are heartbroken by the devastation this disaster has caused. The resilience of the people of Borno is commendable, and it is a testament to the exemplary leadership of the Shehu.”

Ambassador Okafor highlighted the ongoing contributions of AANI members, including Borno State Governor, in promoting national development. He encouraged the Shehu to engage AANI members in initiatives that could further enhance progress in the region, saying, “Collaboration is key. By working together, we can help rebuild and uplift our communities.”

In response, the Shehu expressed his gratitude for the visit and the solidarity shown by the AANI. He acknowledged the unprecedented nature of the floods, remarking, “This disaster has tested our limits, but the support from leaders like Ambassador Okafor and the Borno State Governor has been invaluable in our efforts to assist those in need.”

The meeting was attended by the Waziri of Borno, members of the Shehu’s council, and senior officials from both the government and AANI, including two former AANI Presidents, Engineer MG Umar mni and IGP MD Abubakar (rtd) CFR mni.
