Reports from Maiduguri said a suicide bomber detonated a bomb at a Jumaat Mosque near the Shehu of Borno’s Palace today in the city.The bomber and many others were believed to have been killed. Reuters quotes military spokesman Sagir Musa as having told reporters that “Five people have been killed and six others injured in the Maiduguri central mosque suicide bomb attack,”
Newsdiaryonline.com learnt that the Shehu of Borno,Abba Garbai and the Deputy Governor of Borno state , Zannah Umar Mustapha who were in the mosque escaped unhurt by the blast.One source however said “their dresses were messed up with human flesh blood.The deputy governor was also unhurt in the blast.”Contrary to earlier report,Governor Kashim Shettima was not in the Mosque.
Giving an account of what happened an official said as soon as the prayers ended and worshippers were getting out of the Mosque, a young boy of about 15 years blew himself up in a manner that suggested that the deputy governor and the Shehu might have been the target of the blast.
No group has claimed responsibility yet for this blast at the time of this report.But Maiduguri has been in the grip of Boko Haram Islamic sect attacks that have defied all official efforts to bring the crisis to an end.
