al-makura-nasarawa-gov_0_0Reports from Nasarawa said the impeachment panel set up by the chief Judge has dismissed the 16 charges leveled against Governor Tanko Almakura.
Governor Al-makura on Monday made an appearance before the panel during which he announced that he had not been served the notice of impeachment by the lawmakers. But he insisted he chose to show up to clear his name.
Panel chairman warned that if any of the sides failed to appear, it would be compelled to dismiss the charges.
The lawmakers on Tuesday sent lawyers led by Ocha Ulegede to appear before the panel which some kind of protest letter .But after listening to lawmakers; counsel, the panel dismissed the allegations against the governor.
Actually, the lawmakers had earlier called on theNasarawa State Chief Judge ,Mr Suleiman Dikko to dissolve the panel on grounds of some allegations against the members .But Al makura’s party, the All Progressives Congress, APC argued that it would be unconstitutional to do so after the panel had been constituted.
Perhaps the APC and Al makura learnt their lessons after Governor Mjurtala Nyako of Adamawa state was swiftly impeached.Reports said the party and its agents reached out to the presidency seeking a soft landing for Al Makura.President Goodluck Jonathan even met with the Nasarawa lawmakers.Details of what they discussed were not made known though some reports claimed the president urged them to ‘take things easy’.
It is however unclear whether the last has been heard of this impeachment saga yet.
