HDI builds capacity of Education Secretaries for effective management

Human Development Initiatives (HDI), a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO, )on Thursday trained education Secretaries (ES)in Lagos on tools for effective and strategic management of schools in the State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that training brought an array of resource persons in educational management and psychology on how to move the education sector forward in the state.

Speaking at the event, Mrs Olufunso Owasanoye, Executive Director, HDI, said that Education Secretaries play critical roles in building up the foundation of education in the state.

Owasanoye said that globally, education managers were making moves to revamp  the sector for effectiveness and productivity.

According to her, the training will identify the gaps in the system and equip the trainees with the necessary tools to think outside the box in repositioning education in the state.

Mrs Jaiyeoba Adejoke, while delivering her lecture on Personal Health Management, urged the ES to pay very close attention to their health.

Adejoke said that regular exercises and routine medical check up was necessary for general wellbeing of the body.

She said that for effective health management, the ES should also know how to manage stress, time and their finances.

Prof. Steven Oyebade of the Faculty of Education, University of Lagos, said that education plays critical role in bringing up the leaders of tomorrow.

Oyebode said that the transmission of education takes place in schools which require tax payers money to be funded.

He called for the strategic funding of schools for effective results and management.

NAN reports that the training was put together by HDI in partnership with MacArthur Foundation.

Similar trainings conducted by HDI has helped school managers in building high emotional intelligence needed to manage schools in the state. (NAN)
