President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the closure of government offices and schools in the Federal Capital Territory,FCT,Abuja from Wednesday, 7th to Friday, 9th May, 2014 to ensure a hitch-free World Economic Forum Africa.
A statement signed by Anyim Pius Anyim, Secretary to the Government of the Federation said “This is to ease the flow of traffic within the city and enable participants carry out their assigned roles and participate actively at the World Economic Forum Africa”
Anyim in the statement informed “ the general public that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, has approved, as part of arrangements for the successful hosting of the World Economic Forum Africa, that all Government Offices and Schools in the Federal Capital Territory, expect those on essential services, are to be closed from Wednesday, 7th to Friday, 9th May, 2014.
“Private Organisations with large number of staff may also wish to close down”,the statement said.
The Federal Government has repeatedly given assurances about security for the Forum in Abuja despite two recent bomb explosions at Nyanya .The latest bomb blast went off yesterday killing at least 19 people. And security agencies said they have commenced investigations into the incident already..
Observers believe the presidential order closing government offices and schools is a further evidence that the FG is determined to indeed have a hitchfree World Economic Forum Africa.
