Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have killed seven police officers in Abuja.
A witness identified as Aliyu Musa told Newsdiaryonline on Tuesday afternoon that the incident occurred on Monday night around Galadimawa roundabout by Lokogoma express road in Abuja metropolis.
According to the witness, a motorcycle operator who ply Galadimawa-Sun city axis, said the suspects were in a car when they opened fire on police officers on duty at a checkpoint.
“I dropped a passenger at Galadimawa junction around 9: pm when I saw policemen at a checkpoint doing stop and search on vehicles, before I could blink I heard multiple gunshots”
“The gunmen attack on the policemen led to pandemonium at the junction as sounds of the gun shots dispersed all the people around. We all scamper for safety,” Mr. Musa said in Hausa.
“I cannot tell if the attack led to the death of any police officer or not. But a stray bullet from the attackers injured one of our fellow ‘Okada Rider’ on his right arm,” he added.
This Newspaper gathered that the attack led to the death of seven police officers attached to FCT Police Command.
A police officer who is not permitted to speak to journalist confirmed the incident to our reporter Tuesday afternoon.
“I cannot really narrate how the attackers killed our colleagues yesterday. But the attack led to the death of seven of our men while one of our officers narrowly escaped with gunshot wounds.
“The slained officers were three Mobil police and four conventional policemen,” he said.
The FCT Police Command spokesperson, Manzah Anjuguri did not respond to multiple phone calls and text messages as at the time of filling this report.
