The Shari’a Commission in Bauchi State has disbursed N10.8 million, farm produce and livestock to 2,500 people as annual Zakkat across the state.
Malam Yakubu Gero, a Director in the Commission in charge of Zakkat and Endowment, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi on Friday.
NAN reports that Zakkat is one of the five principles of Islam which all Muslims with the capacity are obliged to fufill by Allah.
Gero said that the 962 bags of farm produce, comprising Rice, Guinea corn, Beans, Wheat, Millet and Maize were equally distributed to the beneficiaries.
The director said that in addition 26 cows were given to beneficiaries of the Zakkat, who were less privileged members of the society.
He explained that the money and produce distributed as Zakkat were donated by affluent and public spirited members of the society over the period of January to December 2021.
Gero said that some of the beneficiaries with the pressing needs received cash while others received farm produce and some got both, depending on individual needs.
He called on wealthy individuals in the society to donate to the commission for onward distribution to the needy. (NAN),
