The member representing Abak, Etim Ekpo, Ika Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom state, Hon. Emmanuel Ekon has raised alarm over the killings and kidnappings in Etim Ekpo Local government area of the state
Ekon, who at the weekend undertook assessment tour of the areas affected by the scourge of cult killings that have resulted in the death of 50 persons in Udianga Enem, Ikot Udobong, Obon Ebot, Ikot Obioma and other villages since last year, expressed worry at the scale of violence in his constituency.
While calling on security agencies to halt the mayhem and solicited for calm among the affected communities, he appealed to aggrieved youths in the communities against taking the laws into their own hands.
“I am appealing to you not take the laws into your own hands by engaging in any form of reprisal attacks against those holding your communities hostage. Though the killings are pathetic and worrisome, I know how you feel, but it is not the time to use violence against violence”, Ekon warned.
Traditional rulers and stakeholders of Etim Ekpo petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. Ibrahim Idris last year and urged him to take an action that would stem killings, kidnappings and other violent crimes in their domains.
