The police on Friday arraigned a 32-year-old man, Dele Abejide, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing one Tecno phone valued N35,000.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial for stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp Johnson Okunade, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence on Jan.25 at about 10:00 a.m. at Ojumose Street in Ado-Ekiti.
Okunade alleged that the defendant and his accomplices stole one Tecno phone valued N35,000 and a cash sum of N10,000, all valued at N45,000 belonging to one Aderemi Ayomide.
He noted that the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The counsel to the defendant, Mr Emmanuel Sumonu, urged the court to grant his client bail with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The chief magistrate, Mrs Titilayo Ola-Olorun, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until March 2, for hearing. (NAN)
