Speaker of House of Representatives and Sokoto state candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has chided the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for making plans to postpone the February general elections by forming an interim government.

He said during the official flag-off campaign ceremony for the 2015 general elections, which took place in Sokoto on Sunday.

Apparently referring to suggestions by certain Nigerians that President Jonathan could postpone elections in view of the ongoing insurgency, Tambuwal warned that there is no such provision in Nigerian constitution.

“You cannot postpone elections. There is no such provision in the constitution. You cannot form an interim government,” he said adding, “The only option is to conduct election; an election that must be  free, fair and credible.”

Tambuwal claimed that under a credible election, the APC would be seen sweeping all positions in the February elections. “They fear to conduct the election because they know that if there is a free, fair and credible election, General Buhari and indeed, all other categories of APC candidates will win the elections,” he said.

Governor Aliyu Wamakko urged the people of the state to expose anyone that approached them to sell Permanent Voters Cards (PVC). “They are planning to approach you to buy your PVCs. Would you sell it to them?” He asked.

The governor, who is APC’s candidate for Sokoto North Senatorial District appealed to those who have not claimed their PVCs, to do so as “it is only with that, that you can elect people of your choice.”

Those in attendance at the flag-off included the National chairman, John Oyegun; interim chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande; APC party chieftain, Ahmed Tinubu; Governors of Edo and Kwara states, Adams Oshiomhole and Abdulfatah Ahmed; Senators Adamu Aliero, Ahmed Sani Yerima and Atiku Bagudu, who is also APC governorship candidate in Kebbi state.
