Just weeks after a bomb rocked Maiduguri Jumaat Mosque ,another blast has hit a Mosque on a Friday in Northern Nigeria .Reports said the Postiskum Central Mosque in neighbouring Yobe state was today hit by a suicide bomb blast. The Emir of Fika ,Muhammadu Ambali Ibn Muhammadu Idrissa escaped death in the bomb blast today.
Today’s incident occurred weeks after the Mosque attached to the Palace of Shehu of Borno was hit by a suicide bomber after a Friday prayer session.Just like today’s escape by the emir, the Shehu of Borno and the Deputy Governor of Borno escaped the attack on Maiduguri Mosque by a teenage suicide bomber.Today’s attack is even more unfortunate because it was the first of such on a Jumaat Mosque in the Holy Month of Ramadan during which Muslims are fasting.
A police orderly attached to the emir of Fika was along with the bomber today.Further details of casualty were sketchy at the time of filing this report.
No group has claimed responsibility for this afternoon’s blast yet. But Borno and Yobe states have been posing a tougher challenge to security operatives as the activities of unidentified gunmen and Boko Haram members have continued unabated. The unidentified gunmen have repeatedly embarked on daring robbery operations seizing salaries meant for local government workers in Yobe state unhindered in recent times. These robberies coupled with repeated bomb attacks have made Potiskum and its environs particularly unsafe for many.
