The Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Hon. Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala will on Monday 29th April, 2013 hold an interactive session with captains of industry, heads of multinational and large corporations, SMEs and other private sector organizations in all sectors of the economy to garner support for the Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS), which is a component of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P).
The interactive session, earlier scheduled to hold at the International Conference Centre, is now to take place at the Congress Hall, Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja by 11.00am.
The Graduate Internship Scheme is one of the social safety net components of SURE-P designed to provide graduates with quality temporary work experience that will make them stronger candidates for job openings in the labour market. It commenced on October 9, 2012 with the mandate to match 50,000 Nigerian graduates to firms where they will acquire working experience and skills. Presently, almost 85,000 graduates are registered on the scheme, attesting to the Scheme’s high interest rate among graduates.
