#TrackNigeria: The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger state and the House of Representatives members-elect have explained their stand for supporting Femi Gbajabiamila as candidate for the Speaker of the lower house of the National Assembly against their own Mohammed Bago.

According to the state chairman of the party, Engineer Jibril Imam, the decision was to avert the recurrence of what happened during the 8th Assembly, resulting in alleged slow down of the progress of the nation for four years.

Speaking after the party’s meeting with the members-elect the chairman said that the endorsement of Gbajabiamila as the Speaker of the 9th Assembly was to enable a smooth ride for the APC government as well as show their loyalty to the party.

“We are loyal party members and have resolved  to toil the position of the party by endorsing Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan as the Senate President of the 9th Assembly and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as the Speaker of the 9th Assembly.

“Our experience in the 8th Assembly is not palatable and it has  slow down our progress in the last 4 years and we don’t want a repeat of that,” Imam said.

He urged everyone to support the decision of the national body of the party for a smooth and peaceful House of Representatives..

Speaking on behalf of the member-elect, Abdullahi Mahmud who represents Agaie/ Lapai Federal Constituency said that all members elect from the state and the North Central had decided to support the two candidates endorsed by the party.
