The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says arrangements have been concluded for its 3rd Annual Scientific Conference.

The Chief Executive Officer of NCDC, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, made this known in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.

He announced that the conference would be co-organised by the Nigeria Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Programme (NFELTP).

Ihekweazu said the conference, billed to hold in Abuja between Sept. 4 and Sept. 6, would mark the 10th year of existence of the NFELTP.

The official explained that the aim of the conference was to create a platform for field epidemiologists and public health physicians to share their scientific work with a larger public health audience.

According to him, it will also be an opportunity to deliberate on the application of epidemiological methods to address public health issues in the country and beyond.

Ihekweazu, who gave the theme for the conference as “Strengthening Health Security through Field Epidemiology’’, said it was couched to address the emergence and re-emergence of viral haemorrhagic fevers and other epidemic prone diseases.

He said the occasion would also be used to showcase the importance of training frontline field epidemiologists, sharing knowledge, networking and building partnerships.

According to him, the conference is also an avenue to address public health issues and strengthen health security in the country.

He said over 200 scientific presentations would be delivered to enhance health security through field epidemiology in Nigeria and Africa. (NAN)
