Man docked for allegedly stealing raw beef worth N91, 000

A 42-year-old man, Moshood Shoyinka, was on Thursday docked in an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly stealing beef worth N91,000.

The police charged Shoyinka, whose address was not provided, with theft.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec. 16, 2021 at Mile 12 market, Ketu, Lagos.

Bassey said that the defendant stole the raw beef from the premises of meet sellers in the market.

He said the meat belonged to Ahmed Olawale, a butcher in mile 12 market.

The prosecution said that the defendant pretended to he was one of the ”market” boys who help to bring down produce from the vehicles transporting them  into the market.

Bassey said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three years’ jail term for stealing.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Daodu,admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N40,000 with one surety in like sum.

Daodu ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

She adjourned the case until Jan. 3 for mention. (NAN)
