A 32-year-old man Samson Kelechi on Wednesday appeared in an Ojo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly obtaining money by false pretence.
The defendant is standing trial on a two-count charge of causing breach of peace and obtaining money by false pretences.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Dr Simeon Uche told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 5 at the Alaba International Market in Ojo, Lagos.
He said that the defendant obtained the sum of N600,000 from a complainant, Arinze Udeh under the pretext that he would credit his account with the sum.
The representation was said to be false as the defendant never credited the account of the complainant.
The defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace on the same day at the Alaba International Market.
The offences contravened the provisions of Sections 168 and 314 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The Magistrate Mr Ademola Adesanya admitted the defendant to bail of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until April 6, for mention. (NAN)
