Kaduna State High Court sitting in Kaduna has asked that former reporter with Vanguard Newspapers, Mr. Luka Binniyat still be remanded in Kaduna Maximum prison till the 31st August, 2017 unless he is able to meet the bail terms granted by the judge.
The judge had ordered earlier that Binniyat be remanded in prison for the past 10 days over allegation of false publication and incitement brought before him by the Kaduna State Government.
At the continuation of hearing yesterday, Mr. Binniyat who was brought in from the prison in a truck walked into the court room with the help of crutches to make appearance having sustained injuries from an accident.
Justice Bashir Sukola who granted the bail application in the sum of ten million naira with two sureties in like sum and a bank bond in same amount, with deposition of the sureties international passport however ordered that Mr. Binniyat be remanded in prison should he fail to meet the bail conditions.
The Kaduna State government had dragged the Journalist to court on two count charges over publication in Vanguard Newspaper of alleged killings of five students of College of Education Gidan-Waya published on 22ndJanuary, 2017.
The Journalist is equally being charged of breach of public peace and injurious falsehood punishable under sections 114 and 393 of the penal code laws of Kaduna State.
Responding to the bail conditions, counsel to the journalist Alex Marama who led other five lawyers expressed surprise with the bail conditions.
He however said he was going to apply for varying of the bail conditions and if it fails, he will think of what to do.
The court was filled up to capacity with Kaduna Journalists who were on ground to show solidarity with Mr Binniyat a former correspondent Chapel Chairman and a force to reckon with in the affairs of the Kaduna Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) .
