Jega 600The President of the Nigeria Voters Assembly, a Human Rights and Pro – democracy Group,   Comrade Mashood Erubami has warned against the sinister plan of some people in government to push tenure elongation for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

According to a statement issued in Ibadan, such plan is not acceptable to Nigerians and should  be rejected by in its entirety.

The statement noted that there is a clandestine plan by some people in authority to hide under the pretest of the INECs weak handling of the distribution and delivery of the permanent Voters Card (PVC) across the country to push for the postponement of the election which may be accompanied with a new agenda to shift the tenure of the President beyond May 29, 2015.

The postponement arrangement is coming on the heal of other hidden agenda which had earlier collapsed .The Government of President   Jonathan first  proposed and organized the National Conference as a political masterstroke to seek tenure elongation and when the conference became inconclusive, it planned to use the  self inflicted general insecurity as another excuse to shift the polls  which also failed .

The statement therefore considered it imperative for the INEC to jettison whatever new joker is being introduced by the ruling Party and stand with Nigerians on the election. All eyes are on INEC to perform creditably and ensure that the forthcoming 2015 general elections should go on as planned.

Nigerians according to the statement are eager to go into the election to vote out non-performing elected officers and vote in candidates that will provide for them quality governance. Justice then demands that for constructive political engagement to continue, President Jonathan should complete his term in May 2015 and yield position to the voice of the people who are craving for a new order. adding “election were conducted in troubled countries like Afghanistan, Iraq and Egypt and  that Nigeria should not be an exception.

The statement finally called on the INEC to intensify its preparations for the election and advise politicians and aspirants to various positions to  play the game according to the rule. Imploring the electoral body to remain steadfast and refuse to cave in to what will be massive pressure from the Jonathan administration and its praise singers to scuttle the 2015 elections by changing the electoral timetable already announced by it.”
