A fresh bomb blast has killed at least 19 people in Damaturu,Yobe State.The explosion occurred at the Sunday Market in the town
Confirming the incident,spokesman of Yobe Command of Nigeria Police, Toyin Gbadegasin said “Fifteen people have been confirmed dead so far and more dead bodies are being brought to the hospital.”
Relying on witnesses ,Reuter has reported that about 50 people were injured in Sunday’s blast.
Yobe state in Nigeria’s nortn east has been repeatedly ravaged Boko Haram attacks .Last week, 8 people were killed in a car bomb blast at a police check point in Damaturu.Three of the victims were policemen.On eid el fitri sallah day ,explosions rocked the praying ground in the town.
Borno,Yobe,Adamawa states have been hardest hit by recent bomb blasts.Other states hit as well include Plateau, Yobe ,Kano and Kaduna .
President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to end the insurgency and he has been putting measures in place to that effect.He recently changed the service chiefs to signal a strategic shift in the battle against Boko Haram.But attacks have continued.
Gaidam Condemns Damaturu Market Bomb Attack
Meanwhile Governor Ibrahim Gaidam has condemned the attack on Damaturu Market.A statement by
His media aide,Abdullahi Bego said the governor “has been briefed about the horrific bomb attack in a market in Damaturu today, in which 19 people were killed and many others injured.
“This is another sad day in our State in which innocent people were again the target of blood-thirsty terrorists.
The statement said further that “His Excellency Governor Gaidam’s thoughts and prayers are with the families of victims and those who sustained injuries.
“The governor has condemned the attack as callous, barbaric and unjustifiable.
He has also called on security agencies in the State to step up surveillance and the people to remain very vigilant about happenings in their areas and report any suspicious persons or movements to the nearest security point or jurisdiction.
The governor has also directed hospital authories at the Sani Abatcha Specialist Hospital, Damaturu where the injured have been taken for medical attention to provide immediate and free medical attention to victims.
Gaidam also reminded people about the need not to relent in prayers for Almighty Allah (SWT) to help restore peace and security in our State and our country.
