Ane Osiobe International Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, on Thursday donated learning materials to Special Education Resource Centre’s Pilot Science Primary School, Gwagwalada, in a bid to assist the under-privileged students.
The donated materials include exercise books, textbooks and writing materials for pupils and teachers of the school.
Mrs Asmau Idris, the organisation’s vice-president, who presented the items to the school, said that the purpose of the donation was to support efforts to deliver quality education to the needy.
Idris said that the foundation had been committed to providing assistance across the country so as to facilitate efforts to fight illiteracy, especially among disadvantaged persons.
“Today marks the second outreach of the foundation this year and the seventh outreach it has organised since its founding in 2015, in honour of Mrs Ann Eloho Osiobe’s legacy.
“In today’s outreach, the LEA special needs school was presented with texts books, notebooks and other school materials to encourage the students and teachers of the school in the coming academic year.
“Our objective is to provide learning materials to the pupils of the school and our vision is to give hope to the less-privileged in the society at large,’’ she said.
Idris underscored the need to educate young people in order to secure their future, saying that every child had something to contribute to the community and nation building processes.
According to her, the foundation wants all children, regardless of their circumstances in life, to achieve their full potential and contribute to the growth and development of the country.
Besides, Idris assured the school authorities of the organisation’s readiness to provide more materials that would boost learning in the school.
Receiving the items, Mrs Comfort Demide, the Head Teacher of the school, lauded the organisation for its kind gesture and pledged that the items would be used for their intended purposes.
She, nonetheless, appealed to the government and relevant authorities to provide adequate facilities for the school so as to enhance its operations.
