Coalition of FCT Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Support Group, has called on the electorate to cast their votes properly to reduce the number of invalid votes during the Feb. 12, FCT Area Council elections.
Mr Godwin Onmonya, the Coordinator of the group made the call on Monday in Kuje, during a sensitisation programme to enlighten voters on election observation and vote casting in the area.
Omonya said the number of invalid votes and electorate malpractice during area council elections, especially at the rural areas was worrisome, hence the need for sensitisation.
According to him, the importance of the PVCs and proper vote casting cannot be over emphasised, as it is the only tool the electorate can use to choose leaders of their choice.
“The call has become necessary, apart from increasing the voting strength in elections; there is also need to reduce invalid number of votes during elections.
“Aged men and women, especially at the rural areas usually don’t cast their votes properly and that always leads to high number of rejected invalid votes cast during elections.
“It is the responsibility of the citizens to obtain their PVCs and vote properly candidates of their choice to help reduce rejected and invalid votes,” he said.
He said the call had become imperative to enable voters and supporters to vote credible candidates during the FCT Area Council elections.
Abubakar Yunusa, who spoke on behalf of other participants thanked the group for the sensitisation and promised to vote properly during the FCT Area Council elections in the area. (NAN)
