Fresh reports from Borno State said the Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji IDrissa Timta has died while his convoy came under attack during an ambush by Boko Haram .The tragic incident occurred while he was travelling in a convoy today to Gombe for the burial of the late Emir of Gombe.
Anjikwi Musa who resides in Shaffa told journalists by telephone,”We saw the corpse of the Emir of Gwoza, it appeared he died of heart attack because there is no sign of bullet injury on his body. His children and family members are on their way to Shaffa to pick his corpse back for burial in Gwoza.”
It was learnt that the gunmen actually made an attempt to abduct them when they opened fire on their moving vehicles close to Shaffa town in Hawul local government area.
The late Emir of Gwoza was in the same vehicle with his counterpart, the Emir of Uba, Alhaji Ismaila Timta. The Emir of Uba however survived the attack by the whiskers.
As their cars came under attack, the two emirs succeeded in opening the car and ran into the bush ,witnesses said.
But a heavy gun battle ensued between some soldiers and the insurgents, at the end of which the corpse of the Emir of Gwoza was found in the bush .The Emir of Uba came out of the bush alive.
There were however fears that some members of the convoy may have been abducted by the insurgents. And vehicles in the emir’s convoy were reportedly set ablaze.
Also, there was no official statement from the Borno state Government at the time of filing this story but one operative who spoke under condition of anonymity confirmed the incident which he described as sad.
