A 2014 Batch ‘A’ Corp Member, Achinivu Achinivu has launched ‘Do WASAP’ Project, a campaign to raise awareness on the importance of hand washing with soap amongst school aged children in Nigeria.
A total of 14 volunteer teachers thought 300 pupils the processes of using a hand wash lesson plan created by Achinivu at the launch held at L.E.A Primary School, Wuse, Abuja.
The Corp member also donated 15 hand wash stations which include 30 litre buckets with taps, 10 litre buckets, water collection basin, stools, with taps, stools, soaps, paper towels gift packs for all students, school teachers and volunteer teachers, respectively.
The initiator of the programme, Achinivu said he plans to return to the school early next year to inspect the item donated and determine that the school pupils are using them and remember how to properly wash hands with soap.
According to one of the Volunteer Teachers, Hadiza Audi, “Do WASAP Project was a great opportunity for Corp members to give back to the community”
The participating students were awarded a Certificate of Completion while the volunteer teachers got Certificate of Appreciation at the end of the event which was sponsored by Gilmor Engineering (NIG) LTD and Caring Heart Ministries Int’l.
The project with the acronymWASAP stands for:
W – Wet hands with clean running water;
A – Apply soap on your hands and rub them together including back of hands;
S – Scrub your hands for at least 15 to 20 seconds;
A – Apply water to your hands and rinse them;
P – Pick up a clean dry cloth and dry your hands or air dry them.
