The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, attended the Northern Governors Forum meeting in Kaduna today, calling for a “Whole of Society” approach to tackle the nation’s insecurity challenges. Addressing the governors, community leaders, and other dignitaries, General Musa stressed the importance of collective effort, stating, “By working hand in hand, we overcome the challenges before us and pave a way for a better future for Nigeria.”
General Musa highlighted the essential roles of collaboration across government, communities, and traditional and religious leaders in strengthening national security efforts. He emphasized the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s (AFN) commitment to supporting actions and initiatives taken by regional leaders, reiterating, “The AFN is here to support all actions and initiatives that will be carried out by the governors, traditional, and religious leaders.”
The forum also underscored the significance of the newly formed theatre command, Operation Fassan Yamma, designed to address the ongoing security issues in the North-West region. According to General Musa, this new theatre command will reinforce the AFN’s resolve to bring lasting peace not only to the North but to the entire nation.
In his speech, the CDS commended the 19 Northern State Governors for their unwavering support of the Armed Forces, adding special appreciation for President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s continuous backing.
Pledging the loyalty of the Armed Forces to the President, General Musa expressed gratitude for the establishment of the North-West theatre command, which he described as a strategic move towards addressing lingering security concerns.
General Musa also touched on the newly launched Presidential Livestock Programme, describing it as a “transformative opportunity to bolster the agricultural sector, particularly in the context of livestock production.”
He remarked that the program promises enhanced food security, economic growth, and sustainable livelihoods for Nigerians.
The Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, His Excellency, Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, voiced his appreciation for the AFN’s relentless efforts in combating insecurity in the region.
Governor Yahaya also commended President Tinubu for establishing Operation Fassan Yamma to tackle the specific security challenges in the North-West, affirming that the initiative will play a crucial role in fostering stability.
The Northern Governors Forum meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to an inclusive, society-wide approach to security, reinforcing the need for unified action to build a safer and more secure Nigeria.
