(Updated) Bomb explosions have again hit Kano city on Wednesday in northern Nigeria.Today’s twin blasts occurred at the busy Kantin Kwari textile market in the ancient city.
Kano market is usually crowded as people come from far and wide to buy and sell. It is the largest market of textile materials in the West African sub-region .It is renowned for the variety of items .
Meanwhile ,the exact casualty figures could not be determined immediately.Reuters reports Kano Police Commissioner , Adenerele Shinaba as having said that two female suicide bombers carried out the attack on the market killing at least 4 and injuring seven others. But given the crowded nature of the market, the casualty figure could be higher. In fact, reports Wednesday night put the death toll at 6 people killed in the explosions.
Today’s blasts came about two weeks after multiple bomb explosions and gun attacks rocked the Kano central mosque killing over 200 people.
Before these fresh explosions in Kano, there had been unofficial security alerts circulated through emails and social media since the beginning of this week urging Nigerians to be careful and to avoid crowded places as some terrorists have allegedly flooded into the country.
