nigeria-borno-adamawaSeveral border villages in Madagali Local Government area of Adamawa State have been sacked by gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram Insurgents .The insurgents reportedly hoisted their flags in Adamawa villages just about 48 hours after they attacked the Police Mobile Training Camp in Limankara village of Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno state. The Police Headquarters said on Saturday that 35 policemen were still missing after the attack on Gwoza Training College.
Eyewitnesses said the attacks in Madagali were about the most lethal in recent times resulting in many casualties as the insurgents captured many villages in one fell swoop as security operatives in the areas allegedly took to their heels.
Mr. James Abawu Watharda,Executive Chairman of Madagali the development said the insurgents hit the local government in large numbers with sophisticated weapons including Rocket Propelled Launchers, Improvised Explosive Devices and petrol bombs, and started shooting at innocent people and setting properties ablaze before overpowering security operatives and vigilante groups and immediately start hoisting their flags.
He said ,”Yes some Boko Haram terrorists invaded most of our villages, shooting sporadically and in the process killing many innocent people and destroyed a lot of houses before hoisting their flags in different locations.
“We, are worried with the spate of killings and destruction by terrorists without the intervention of the security operatives,” he said. People have also been reported to be fleeing the area.
It is some sort of double jeopardy for those who have fled the attacks on Gwoza earlier as their attempt to seek refuge in Madagali has been aborted. Such internally displaced people have been compelled to vacate the area
Mr Dauda Musa, one of the Gwoza refugees who was in Gulak after fleeing, said that “the latest attack forced many people in Madagali including the displaced persons to flee to neighboring Mubi and Gombi towns of Adamawa for fear of possible attacks from the terrorists who now operate freely without confrontation from security operatives”.
Attempts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa ,Mr Micheal Haa were abortive
But it was also learnt that the attacks on Madagali have caused unease in neighbouring Michika ,Hong and Gombi local government areas.
