- Mr JohnBosco Onunkwo, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress(APC), has distributed more than 1,000 bags of 50kg fertiliser to cooperative farmers and his support groups in Anambra.
- Onunkwo, a governorship aspirant in November, 2025 off season election in Anambra, made the distribution on Friday in Awka.
- He said that the fertiliser distribution would be followed by the distribution of sewing and grinding machines to women across the state in order to help alleviate their hardship.
- Onunkwo, represented by his aide, Mr Emmanuel Ifediata, said the gesture was in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, targeted at boosting food production and security and alleviating the sufferings of the masses.
- The Anambra-born philanthropist explained that the fertiliser distribution was part of his 2024 agricultural programme which started in April with the distribution of truckloads of yam seedlings to various farmers groups.
- “What we are doing is to support the APC government to check food crisis by boosting food production among various farmers’ cooperative groups and our political stakeholders.
- “Also, the distribution of sewing machines and grinding machines for the local government, zonal and state coordinators of IFEDICHE WOMEN WING is to empower ardent supporters who believe in my governorship project.’’
- Onunkwo said the initiative of giving out the machines was aimed at alleviating economic hardships and providing the beneficiaries with sustainable means of income.
- He urged the beneficiaries to continue to support the All Progressive Congress (APC) leadership of Tinubu and ensure that the party took over the state in the next governorship election.
- Onunkwo, who had contested for Anambra governorship position two times, insisted that the state was losing a lot by playing opposition politics.
- “We are the only state governed by All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and this has robbed us a lot politically; the next governorship election should be a time to right the wrong,’’ he said.
- Responding, one of the beneficiaries, Mr Dominion Okoli from Umunze in Orumba South area, appreciated Onunkwo for the gesture, describing him as a politician with a large heart.
- “Your consistent interventions in agriculture is worthy of emulation by the government and good-spirited individuals across the country to help tackle the food crisis facing the nation.
- “We also wish to thank you for encouraging productivity that will enhance the welfare of our people at large.
- “Anambra cooperative farmers are proud of you and pray that the vision of you becoming the next governor shall be a reality,” he prayed. (NAN)
