The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, on Thursday, entered into partnership with a United Arab Emirate (UAE) based Non-Governmental Organisation — Noor Dubai Foundation — for the provision of free treatment and prevention of visual impairment in Nigeria.

In a  statement  her Director of Information, Mr Suleiman Haruna, on Thursday in Abuja said the partnership, which was under the Aisha Buhari Foundation, “was part of the president’s wife’s desire to ensure access to visual healthcare to the less privileged in Nigeria.”

He added that the Aisha Buhari Foundation secured the partnership for a four-year eye treatment and prevention programme in Nigeria.

He said the agreement was signed by Mrs Buhari on behalf of the foundation, while Humaid Al Qutami, representing Noor Dubai Foundation in Dubai, signed for the NGO.

The director stated that Aisha Buhari was happy over the partnership, saying it would directly impact on Federal Government’s strategy on treating visual impairment among Nigerians.

Haruna quoted Qutami as saying  the foundation had so far treated 25 million people around the world through its medical outreach since its inception in 2008.

He said the foundation recently performed medical outreach in Kaduna, where 5000 patients were screened and 1200 were given eye glasses, while 470 patients
were operated upon. (NAN)
