The Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has arrested four suspects in Sokoto for allegedly smuggling 589 bags of imported rice concealed in a petrol tanker.

The Area Comptroller, Mr Nasir Ahmad told newsmen on Tuesday in Sokoto that the smuggled items, which were intercepted on Sunday along Koko-Yauri road in Kebbi State, had N11.1 million Duty Paid Value (DPV).

He said that the bags of rice were found to be contaminated by black oil after offloading.

While advising smugglers to find other legal means of livelihood and stop undermining the nation’s economy, Ahmad appealed to those residing in border communities to assist Customs officials with relevant information to track down smugglers.
