The newly sworn-in officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have held their inaugural meeting where they set out their action plan to move it forward.
Mr Edward Masha, the new Chairman, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Monday in Kaduna.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Masha, the former Commissioner for Water Resources in the state, on Sunday emerged as the new Chairman of the party.
Mr Tanko Beiji, the State Returning Officer, announced the results at the Kaduna International Trade Fair Complex, venue of the PDP Congress.
The chairman said the party under his leadership has already swung into action as it held its first inaugural meeting immediately after the new officials were sworn into office.
Masha said: “This marks a change in mandate and we are fully prepared for the job.
“Already, we have held our first inaugural meeting shortly after the swearing in ceremony, with set goals and objectives of what we intend to achieve.
“We have all agreed to work as a team taking into cognisance the needs of the people.
“We are not unaware of the challenges of our people and we are ready to work tirelessly to lighten the burdens”.
The chairman said the leadership of the party would immediately swing into action in preparation ahead of the local government election.
Masha said, ”We intend to take up house-to-house campaigns and ensure everyone is told that PDP still remains the best option.
”The party will strengthen its mechanism and create a research section that will work to explicate facts and figures.
”This is to ensure that when we speak, not for the purpose of an opposition, we want to speak with facts and figures that will make it difficult for the ruling party to deny.
“For this, we will employ the expertise of our young ones to create a space for them to bring their wealth of experience to bring about global best practices on development.”
Masha said although the party has its reservations ahead of the local government election, it would challenge the ruling party and exert their preparedness.
“If free and fair election is conducted, the PDP will win every seat across the local governments,” the chairman said.
He also said that the reasons the present administration was giving on the non use of electronic machines were immaterial.
Masha asked, ”Why should we use a manual method of election in this dispensation when we should be developing?
“We will not give them the chance knowing what they are capable of doing.”
He, however, said the party, as a family, would ensure it brings everyone including the aggrieved members along, meet and resolve matters as part of its reconciliation agenda.
Masha, then, assured the party faithful that the leadership has them at heart and feel their pains especially those at the grassroots.
“Those who always stand by us, we assure you that your votes will not go in vain, as such, fear not,” Masha assured. (NAN)
