The G-60 group led by member representing Ideato Federal Constituency of Imo State, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere has been advised to stop meddling and exacerbating the festering political crises in Rivers State.

Tjis call was made by a group, Citizens Action For Good Governance, while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday. The Citizens Action For Good Governance during its briefing decried the egregious meddling of the G-60 opposition group, led by Ikenga Ugochinyere, in the Rivers State crisis.

The Convener of the Citizen’s group, Murtala Gamji noted that the crisis in Rivers State is an internal matter within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), adding that instead of promoting unity and resolving the issue, Ikenga and his group have chosen to take sides, thereby exacerbating the situation

He said “We, the CITIZENS ACTION FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE, have convened this press conference to address the egregious meddling of the G-60 Opposition Group, led by Honorable Ikenga Ugochinyere, in the Rivers State crisis.

“The crisis in Rivers State is an internal matter within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Instead of promoting unity and resolving the issue, Honorable Ikenga and his group have chosen to take sides, exacerbating the situation. This raises questions about the true intentions and purpose of the G-60 group. Their actions are not only detrimental to the PDP but also harmful to the overall well- being of the nation.

“It is disappointing that he has not shown the same commitment to addressing insecurity issues in Imo State. His lack of action is a clear indication of his priorities, which seem to be centered around personal gain rather than the welfare of the people

“The G-60 group has failed to provide meaningful solutions to national issues, instead opting for self-serving press conferences that only serve to promote individual political ambitions. Honorable Ugochinyere’s actions, such as creating factional groups and inciting violence, do not serve the interests of the Nigerian people. His behavior is a stark reminder of the dangers of political selfishness and the need for leaders to prioritize the common good

“We urge Honorable ikenga Ugochinyere and the G-60 group to cease their divisive actions and work towards fostering unity and progress within the opposition parties. The people of Nigeria deserve leaders who prioritize the common good over personal gain. We demand an end to the meddling in Rivers State’s internal affairs and a focus on addressing the pressing issues facing our nation.”

Gamji condemned the G-60 group’s occasional outbursts, which he said demonstrate their disdain for the rule of law and disrespect for the nation’s institutions.

“In addition, we are appalled by the G-60 group’s occasional outbursts, which demonstrate their disdain for the rule of law and disrespect for the nation’s institutions. Their recent misinterpretation of the Court of Appeal’s judgment is a glaring example of this.

“They deliberately distorted the judgment to suit their own narrative, impugning the integrity of the courts in the process. This is an ignoble act and a flagrant disregard for the rule of law,” he said.

The Convener also stressed that their actions portray a blatant disrespect for President Tinubu’s efforts to broker a peaceful resolution on the matter.

“Their actions also show a blatant disrespect for President Tinubu’s efforts to broker a peaceful resolution. The Constitution and the judgments of the Court of Appeal and Federal High Court have been clear, yet the G-60 group continues to disregard them.

“We demand an apology from the group for their reckless behavior and demand that they respect the institutions that uphold our democracy.

“Let us strive for a democracy built on principles of integrity, unity, and good conscience. This is a call to order and a call to serve in the true Nigerian spirit. We must work together to build a brighter future for all Nigerians,” he said.

Gamji added,” The law must prevail over sentimental falsehood as the Rivers State political crises lingers on. Any further attempts by the Ugochere Group of G-60 to encourage Governor Fubara in disrespecting the Nigerian Constitution, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the judiciary, through incoherent lines of sarcasm, satire illegal actions and unconstructed side-talks, would no longer be tolerated. Enough is enough.

Also speaking, the Co-convener,Citizens Action For Good Governance, Ejike Umunnabuike declared that the way forward is to follow the solution espoused by President Tinubu when he called for a peaceful resolution of the crises.

“The way forward has been espoused by his Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, when he convened a peace meeting at the State House Abuja. At that meeting an 8-point agenda was raised which had to do with issues of values and norms regarding crises resolution and what the parties involved are supposed to do.

“But mid-way or a few days after that meeting, the governor of Rivers State moved to implement one or two, before some people who thought they had a better knowledge base or thought process than he had came to confuse his thought that led to a departure from what have been agreed before Mr President.

“In finding solutions towards resolving the issue, one has to do with going back to the status quo antebellum, which is the initial idea espoused by Mr President who himself is a democrat, who is someone who loves peace, who understands the norms of behavior discrepancies amongst personalities. And the best way forward is to follow the rule of law, because the rule of is the grand norm that guides whatever behavior we put out to the public.

“So, we should follow the rules of law, and what Mr President has recommended,” Umunnabuike declared.
