The president of Imo Community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Ike Obasi, has called on all citizens of the state,to support the state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, in this weekend’s governorship election in the country.
Chief Obasi made the appeal to his people in a chat this reporter in his office in Abuja. He said Okorocha could be compared to Late Chief Sam Mbakwe who governed the state during the Second Republic and became very popular with the citizens of the State in terms of performance.
Still calling on his people to be behind the governor Okorocha,Ikeobasi hailed him for fore-sight, saying what the man saw four years ago had come to pass, even as he added that the man had no competitor in the state with special regard to performance. When asked again, he responded that the governor’s achievements could not be numbered, just as he beckoned on the doubting thomases to go to Imo State and see things for themselves. He further said that the citizens of the state knew the level of development in the state from 1999 to 2011 and the difference from 2011 to date.
“Because he has touched many lives in the state, is the reason why we are saying that he should be given support. When he came out before with his vision, many of us in Igboland didn’t see where he was coming from. An adage in Igboland says that the taste of the food is in the eating and that is why we now want to follow him because his vision has manifested”.
Calling on the president-elect, Gen, Mahammadu Buhari, to ensure that he carries all along, he said: “The president-elect is from the North with so much support and vice president from the South-west, Nd’Igbo should join our leader, Owelle Rochas Okorochas, the moving train, who is part of the APC. The president-elect must ensure that he carries everybody along,”
However, Ike Obasi treated with a wave of hand, the fear that the return of Buhari in the ofiice would be the return of Hausa-Fulani oligarchy by saying “The fear that the North will seize power perpetually and put their religion first before everything and sideline others may not be possible because Buhari was democratically elected based on integrity. But should they do that, it may not augur well in the country,”
He urged Nd’Igbo to join the positive change from the APC, saying that they have worked for PDP for about 14years and have seen their level of development so far. To Rochas he reminded him to remember that Imo State is his constituency. He therefore informed him that the way he has been developing Imo State would be the basis for his political attainment in the future. Finally, he called for peaceful election, advising those in the race not to see politics as do or die affairs.
