The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has assured the Sogho community in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State that relief would soon come their way.The Zonal Coordinator, NEMA, South-South Zone, Mr. Emenike Umesi gave the assurance at Sogho when he visited the area for assessment of the affected area to determine the level of the Agency’s assistance.
He told the community that NEMA visited at the instance of the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Leyii Kwanee who has written to the Agency on the devastation arising from the disturbances in the community.Represented by Pastor Demian Egwu, the Rivers State Desk Officer, NEMA, the Coordinator assured the community that NEMA will do everything possible to bring succor to the communities within the ambits of its resources.
Earlier, the Deputy Speaker assured the Sogho community that he is working in collaboration with NEMA to cushion the effects of the disturbances that left many properties destroyed.
He thanked the NEMA authorities for responding to his petition assuring them of the cooperation of the communities in their assessment exercise.“Your last assistance in providing relief for victims of windstorm disaster in Beeri community in Khana Local Government Area is still fresh in our minds and our people see NEMA as a partner in progress”, he stated.
Speaking also, the Councilor representing Sogho, Prince Abalubu and Mr. Mbube Nwi-Akeeri, emphasized the need for NEMA to assist the communities considering the magnitude of destruction from the disturbances.The NEMA officials who were accompanied by Officials of the Rivers State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) were received by the Deputy Speaker, Chiefs and community leaders.
It would be recalled that clashes broke out between Luusue and Zor communities in Sogho, Khana Local Government Area in May 27th, 2012, leaving no fewer than three persons dead and several buildings there vandalized and burnt.
