The Director General, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt Usman Muhtar has threaten to sanction any debtor operating airlines in the country.
Speaking to the management and staff of the Authority on his policy outlook in 2015 at the aviation house , Muhtar warned debtor airlines to commence remittance of outstanding and current payments or appropriate sanctions will be applied in full.
The DG urged the operators to adhere to their maintenance schedules and train their staff to allow for symmetrical working relationship with the well trained NCAA staff, adding that training and retraining of staff were his priority in this year 2015.
According to him, the Authority will not rest on its oars but will ensure a greater efficiency and sustenance of the robust regulation that has been the hallmark of the NCAA.
Usman reiterated that quite remarkably 2014 was an accident -free year, however, complacency will have no place in our regulatory functions rather, it will be strengthened by adequate training of staff this year.
He noted that the volume of traffic was increasing and advised the operators to ensure compliance with NCAA’s safety guidelines and regulations.
While the primary safety lies in the purview of the operators, the regulatory authority will continue to provide the regulatory framework that will increase their value chain,he noted.
He thanked the management and staff of NCAA saying the 2014 accident free year was as a result of their contributions and called for sustained and incremental efficiency in all their tasks to achieve similar feat and surpass it in 2015.
Usman also gave kudos to all the airline operators in Nigeria and the foreign carriers who equally ensured safety and security in their operations.
