Chief Daniel OkumagbaA book chronicling the life and times of one of Nigeria’s leading politicians, Chief Daniel Okumagba, has been published. Titled Footprints of a Statesman: The life and times of Chief Daniel Okumagba is authored by his son, Bernard Okumagba, former Commissioner of Finance, Delta State.
Chief Daniel Okumagba, who was born on January 1, 1922, died on July 27, 2000, fourteen years ago.
Footprints of a Statesman tells the eventful life of Chief Daniel Okumagba, who was at different times Member of the Western Region House of Assembly, founding member and gubernatorial candidate of the defunct National Party of Nigeria in the Second Republic and pioneer chairman of Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited.
Published by Creektown Books, the biography of Chief Daniel Okumagba of the popular Okumagba family of Warri, Delta State tells of his humble beginnings, his work as a teacher and his fame as a national politician. It also addresses the place of Chief Daniel Okumagba as a fighter for justice and equal rights. The book is coming out on the 14th anniversary of the passing of Chief Daniel Okumagba and will surely find a place on the bookshelves as a record of history and an inspirational book.
A brief about the book, says ‘Chief Daniel Okumagba was a teacher, legislator, politician, businessman and frontline Niger Delta leader. In all, he was a man of peace, who believed in peaceful coexistence among various ethnic groups, a statesman and nationalist.’
Bernard Okumagba, the author, is a chartered accountant, banker and businessman, who also served first as Commissioner for Economic Planning and then Finance in Delta State.
