The Federal Government has tasked managements of private primary and secondary schools to invest heavily in their teachers with a view to guarantee quality education for students in their schools.
Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. MacJohn Nwaobiala gave this advice at the weekend at the 5th anniversary of Doveland International Schools held at the Merit House ,Maitama Abuja.
The permanent Secretary said while the school management and all its stakeholders are celebrating the success they have attained in the last five years, it was imperative that they fixed their eyes on the future for more successes which can only be tied to the quality of the school’s graduands.
He noted that one of the major challenges private schools suffer is that of the quality of the teachers who are highly mobile, thus tasking them to invest in the teachers as well as supporting their professional development so they can be committed to the institution.
His words: ” The achievement of excellence in any educational institutions dependent on the quality of the teaching – learning process. This is because the teachers interpret and communicate the curriculum to the pupils.
“Teachers act as role models to the pupils and transmit societal values from generation to generation. For this reason, it is imperative for schools to recruit and invest in developing teachers who can communicate the curriculum effectively and management classroom of the 21st Century.
“For a teacher to be retained, the school should also provide the professional support, tools and remuneration to ensure the teacher does not migrate to greener pastures,” Nwabobiala stated.
He emphasized that education is the right of a child that every parents and caregiver is demanded to give the children under their watch.
Earlier in her remark, the Proprietor of the school, Mrs. Tina Chukwu said it was indeed an honoured to be entrusted by parents with the responsibility of ensuring the educational growth of the children who were moving from one class to the other after brilliant performance in their respective classes.
She noted that the job was challenging but inspiring as the children progress through the processes especially in developing their unique talents that would define their future, adding that the reward is immeasurable.
