tambuwalspeakerA Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has given an order of perpetual injunction restraining members of the House of Representatives who defected from the Peoples’ Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress from participating in any action that would lead to the removal of principal officers of the House.
Delivering judgment in the suit filed by the PDP against the House of Representatives and its members who defected to the APC, Justice Adeniyi Adetokunbo-Ademola said that the defecting lawmakers could not lawfully vote to effect a change in the leadership of the House.
The court further gave an order of perpetual injunction, restraining the affected lawmakers from tampering, altering or moving towards effecting any change in the leadership of the House on the ground that such action violates section 66 sub section 1(G) of the Nigerian Constitution.
Justice Adetokunbo-Ademola also held that the affected lawmakers could not sponsor any motion that would lead to a change of leadership in the House of Representatives.
Lawyer to the PDP, Yusus Usman, applauded the verdict of the court but the lawyer to the affected lawmakers, Mahmoud Magaji, vowed to appeal the verdict of the court.
