FG Defends Spread of Federal Secretariat Complexes Nationwide…Assures Gombe of Support

The Federal Government has said that the construction of Federal Secretariat Complexes nationwide is to motivate and engender service delivery by its workforce.President Goodluck Jonathan, stated this Saturday, in Gombe, Gombe State, during the Foundation Laying Ceremony of the new Federal Secretariat Complex in the State.

Speaking through, Vice President Arc Mohammed Namadi Sambo, President Jonathan said, “we are confident that the secretariat, upon completion, will motivate workers, ensure job satisfaction, and promote a renewed sense of national purpose to this vital institution.”

The President, noting that there were 25 Federal Secretariat Complexes across the country, stressed that the project would further enhance the harmonious relationship existing between Gombe state and the Federal Government and also foster relations among other federal agencies in the state, while also providing the much needed accommodation for Federal agencies in that state.

He used the occasion to assure the people of the state the continuous support of the Federal Government, as the state strives to deliver the dividends of democracy. He stressed that adequate budgetary provision would be made to ensure the project’s timely completion.

“It is our desire that the siting of a secretariat in Gombe will not only add to the Federal presence in the state but will also ease the burden of office accommodation faced by the Federal  Agencies operating in the State.”

In his remarks, Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Dankwambo expressed appreciation to President Jonathan for facilitating the construction of the Secretariat, while also assuring the Federal Government of the state’s commitment to continue to support her agencies to discharge their duties for the service of the people.

Earlier, the Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Ms Ama Pepple, disclosed that the project would further cement the relations between the state and federal civil servants, while also providing conducive environment for the federal workforce operating in the state. She noted that very soon states like Zamfara, Nassarawa and Osun will witness similar ceremonies. She stated that the project was scheduled to be completed in 100 days, emphasising that the project would meet the highest standards.

Vice President Sambo performed the foundation laying ceremony for the project.

Present at the occasion was the Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Tha’anda Jason Rubainu, Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar, Federal and State legislatures and executive members and other notable dignitaries.

Also ,Vice President, Arc Mohammed Namadi Sambo, has assured the people of Gombe State of continuous Federal presence in the state, through the provision of dividends of democracy.

The Vice President stated this, Saturday, when he performed the  an official statement described as “Ground breaking ceremony of the Kwami Water project”, during his visit to lay the Foundation of the Federal Secretariat Complex in Gombe State.

The Vice President said some of the Federal Government projects that would enhance the socio-economic development of the state included the upgrading of Dadinkowa irrigation scheme at the cost of about N4 billion through the Special Agric intervention scheme and also the provision of hydropower facility in the Dam.

Other areas he enumerated were the construction of a 350 megawatt coal fired power plant through Public Private Partnership (PPP) with a German firm; rehabilitation of the Railway System from Port Harcourt through Gombe to Maiduguri; the construction of a 132 substation in Gombe town to improve electricity supply; the Almajiri education system; and provision of adequate security.

Vice President Sambo, assured that the Federal Government through the Ministry of Petroleum and the NNPC was intensifying efforts on the exploration of hydrocarbon in Gombe and Bauchi States.

He said “we will continue to support the Gombe State government and the good people of Gombe, to ensure that Mr. President’s Transformation Agenda, is achieved such that we will drive away poverty among our people and make Nigeria one of the most developed countries in the world.”

At the occasion he commended the laudable projects of the Governor Dankwambo administration, with particular reference to the Water project, he said “water is life; water is one of the cardinal requirements of human beings.”

Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State in his remarks said the Water project was in fulfilment of his campaign promise to the people. He noted that the project which would cost over four billion naira would span 150 kilometres, and has an 18 month completion period. He said it would cover several villages and Gombe Township. He expressed gratitude to President Jonathan for his continued support to the state.

Vice President Sambo, during the visit was at the palace of the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Shehu Usman Abubakar. He also performed several activities, including the foundation laying of the 450 Housing Unit and that of the reconstruction of the Hassan Central Primary School. He also performed the commissioning of a road named after him.
