The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has called on security agencies to unravel the mystery surrounding the dumping of dead bodies in the Izu River in Anambra State over the weekend by unknown persons, with a view to bringing the perpetrators of the dastardly act to fair and open trial.

The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof. Bem Angwe, reacting to the shocking news of the floating bodies, stated that the right to live remains the mother of all rights and therefore must be recognized and observed by all members of the society.

Prof.  Angwe disclosed that the State Co-ordinators of the Commission’s offices in Awka and Enugu have been directed to carry out a thorough investigation of the incident and report back to Abuja urgently.

While commending the steps taken by the Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, who offered ransom to anyone who has a clue to the source of the floating bodies, Prof. Angwe said the corpses should be properly examined through an autopsy to provide more information on the killings.

It will be recalled that residents of Anambra State woke up Friday to find an unspecified number of lifeless bodies floating in the Izu River in the State.
